Defenseman Adam Comrie was taken in the 3rd round, 80th overall by the Florida Panthers. Forward Garrett Roe was taken in 7th round, 183rd overall by the Los Angeles Kings.
Comrie, a 6'5" 205-pound defenseman, was born outside of Ottawa, Ontario, but moved to Virginia at age nine. He played for the Reston Raiders, Ashburn Extreme, and Montogmery Blue Devils before making the jump to the USHL and playing for the Omaha Lancers and Ohio Junior Blue Jackets. This past season, he played for the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, where he grabbed the attention of many scouts, not only with his great defensive play but also with his ability to produce points. He scored 10 goals and notched 18 assists for 28 points in 58 games.
Roe, a 5'8" 162-pound forward, is the first player born and raised in Virginia ever to be drafted. He played for the Reston Raiders and Washington Little Caps before heading on to Shattuck-St. Mary's Prep School in Faribault, Minnesota. After leaving Minnesota, he played three years for Indiana Ice in the USHL. This past season, he returned to Minnesota to play for the St. Cloud State Huskies, an NCAA Division I team. Roe grabbed much attention this season in the college hockey world by scoring 18 goals and notching 27 assists for 45 points in 39 games, which earned him a spot on the Inside College Hockey Freshman All-America Team.
